HAPPINESS

25 ways to feel happy from the inside out by UK Life Coach Lucy Pemberton-Platt

Use positive affirmations to affirm the way you want to be and feel.

Become conscious of thoughts about yourself and others. Use positive statements to set positive intentions for how you want to feel and act.

Start to form friendships that support you in being the best of who you are.

Have compassion for people who are less than positive. You’re being negative about their negativity prevents your peace of mind.

The words you use can plant seeds of love or fear-Choose them well.

Avoid using the word ‘but’ in a sentence it separates you from the other person. Instead link your sentences with ‘and’ and develop a clear and assertive communication style.

Avoid using phrases like ‘I should’ or ‘I’ll try’; they are not commitments to the action you want to take. Instead use sentences like ‘I must’ or ‘I will’.

Make sure the area where you spend the most time e.g your office, is clean and clutter free. This will help you focus and work with a clear mind.

Emotions like anger, frustration and over whelm prevent your happiness, find a way to let them go e.g writing in a journal, spending some time by yourself, relaxing by listening to music or watching a film.

Take time for yourself every day, e.g. reading a book, taking a bath, going for a walk.

Keep a daily, weekly or monthly to do list. Writing down the actions you need to take clears mental space, helps you feel in action and organised.

Eat a balanced diet. Knowing you have fuelled your body in a healthy way will free up head space and give you energy.

Keep your mind and body hydrated by drinking plenty of water and reducing your intake of alcohol and caffeine.

Notice whether you are holding any tension in your body throughout the day. Are your shoulders tensed or relaxed? If they are tense take the time to shake off the negative energy, take a deep breath and relax your body.

Learn to say ‘no’ when it is right for you. An honest ‘no’ is a ‘yes’ for the other person.

Appreciate. Take time each day to be grateful for all that is good in your life, from the clothes in your wardrobe to the food in your fridge and watch your worry and irritation vanish.

In every challenge you face is an opportunity to learn, grow and share your wisdom with others.

Always trust your intuition-your heart knows what you are truly capable of, your mind is limited.

What is wrong is always available so is what is right, correct your focus.

Congratulate yourself on your strengths; be gentle with yourself on your areas of improvement.

Don’t compare yourself to others, compliment instead and affirm to yourself the qualities that are important to you in a person.

Visualise your dreams and everyday take steps towards them.

Create realistic goals, high expectations can cause guilt and frustration.
Write about your feelings, journaling is an important act of emotional self care.

There is never an end destination so enjoy the journey.

Hi Lorraine, Thank you very much for taking the time to read and comment honestly on my article. I agree that counselling and other therapy can be led by one particular belief system, and this doesn’t take into consideration the individual and what they may need to improve their way of life. As a result I decided to work for myself and compile the strengths in a number of therapies. I also see the significance of self belief and love as this has an effect on everything else in your life. I am really happy you enjoyed reading the article. Love Lucy.

Thank you Lucy for this wonderful insight. I am a firm believer in journaling. We must all encourage young children to express themselves this way as well. Using art, photos and other forms of communication to journal all that they are feeling. Your post is one of the few I have read lately that focuses on validating self worth. So many "wise" counseling surrounds one particular "belief" system or another... your guidance leads us to the most important one of all...believe in yourself. Thanks again - Lorraine
