Celebrations and the Law of Attraction

It’s that time of the year again! Plenty to eat, plenty to drink, fabulous outfits to dress up in and lots of friends to catch up with, running around the shops overloaded with bags of shopping doing last minute Christmas shopping (that is if you are a “normal” person like the best of us and not an organised super human, who took the time to get their list together on boxing day 2008 and finished Christmas shopping by the close of the January sales!) and the best bit of course - exchanging gifts!

I love all kinds of celebrations. I find time to celebrate things like managing to fit in my yoga practice (usually celebrate with a yummy bar of chocolate or a far too sweet to he healthy cereal, DOH!) and things like my car passing it’s MOT (another bar of chocolate ooh and of course the obligatory glass of wine).

On a spiritual level, celebration is a wonderful way to give thanks for all the blessings you are given in each moment, and if you understand anything about the Law of Attraction you’ll know that each time you give heartfelt thanks you open the door to more to give thanks for.

Brief lesson on the spiritual Law of Attraction.
The Law of Attraction (from now on known as LOA – too long to type otherwise see ?) is another Universal Law, in the same vein as the Law of Gravity (LOG)i.e. if you are anywhere near Earth (the closer the better of course) you cannot help but be affected by the universal LOG which simply states all matter has a mass and a central integrated point of gravity and well, as we all know you can’t float from shop to shop, you have to walk. If you think you can fly while you’re in this human suit, well you got another thing coming especially if in some mad moment you decide to prove that you can fly by launching yourself out of your top bedroom window, you know what’ll happen, you will find yourself splat on the face with the surface of whatever you land on giving you a lovely big Glaswegian kiss just by way of a reminder that “LOG applies here on Earth”!

No one to my knowledge has yet defied the LOG, well other than Superman, Wonder Woman, even Spiderman can fall foul of the LOG. But I digress, what I mean to say is in the same way that you can’t avoid the impact of the LOG, you cannot avoid the LOA.

The LOA states - what you focus on you attract to you. Simple! ... But guess what? We don’t always know what we are focusing on! Our minds are such complex busy computers we may be consciously thinking of the many chores we have to get through today and in the back of our mind we may be worrying about the outcome of the car’s MOT.

Now this is where it gets tricky, if when we are “worrying” about the MOT and our thoughts are along the line of “I can’t face another expensive bill for the car”, but you know there’s that little knocking that happens when I go a little too fast, I’ve been ignoring it for ages but, hmm, I’m sure it’s something serious, that’s why I’ve (subconsciously) avoided taking it to the mechanic (who needs the bad news, huh?)… ooh, it’s bound to fail it’s MOT, but it’s a nice little motor, it’ll be ok, yeah but the brakes don’t feel so strong like they did when I had them replaced ….” and on and on and on we go - worrying!

Your “mind” thinks and an images pops up in response to the thoughts you are having, your body reacts to the images your thoughts are creating with feelings. These feelings send out little radio waves that magnetically (and silently) attract to them more of what they “feel” like. So by feeling bad about the MOT failure you actually attract into your experience your car failing it’s MOT. No FUN!

So we need to get proactive, and that is why I celebrate every little gift, experience and well anything that I feel happy and grateful for even in one small moment.

My philosophy is “By focusing on being thankful and feeling happier about my blessings big and small I guarantee that what I am sending out in radio waves is happiness and things to be grateful for so in accordance with the wonderful LOA I will attract more happy moments”.

When I complete a chore I mentally & visually raise a glass of champagne to the universe and allow myself to feel the excitement of celebration. Cheers! Yep that’s done I am so happy and grateful and now I want more of the sense of completion and peace that comes with getting things done.

The Thanksgiving celebration in America is based on a similar principal, as is the Harvest Festival celebrated in the UK - by giving thanks for all that you are grateful for you are letting God know that you appreciate what you’ve been given. And guess what LOA has not choice but to kick into action and give you more. But beware you cannot be thinking in the back of your mind “I don’t have enough… “ and on the surface be celebrating because if you aint feeling it you aint fooling the LOA!

In our modern times of “lack” where we are constantly focusing on what may be missing – “I’ve not got enough time to get the washing done today, not enough money to get that new school bag, etc”. guess what we are sending out to the universe? The silent radioed prayer that “I don’t have enough of ….” (fill in the blank). Result? More of what you don’t have enough of! This is partly what’s created the financial crisis we are seeing all around the world.

Family & celebrations

When it comes to celebrations wit

h family, for most of us there are so many things to usually organise, that we tend to get more stressed about the occasion rather then allowing ourselves to be present in the moment to really take in all our blessings and enjoy. When you feel stressed you attract more stress!

Christmas is globally known to be a time of family disagreements overwhelming us with stress and more stress with the fear of getting it all perfect on the day. We lose sight in those stressful moments of the things we really love about the people around us and all that we have to be grateful for. We find ourselves snapping at our children, begrudging parents for their attempts at giving us advice, resenting siblings for not inviting our parents over for yet another year, leaving it all to us!

Where does that leave us? Feeling unappreciated, incapable, hurt and guilty for the snapping, the resentment and on and on.

Christmas is a celebration of the birth of one the greatest teachers on Earth. A celebration that, in most of our minds, has lost the joy of the day. His teachings, nurture, heal and support millions around the world to this day over 2000 years after he was born. That is surely something to celebrate.

This year I challenge you to allow yourselves to celebrate the day with the understanding that no matter how long the turkey takes to cook, no matter what nifty gadget your partner has bought you for Christmas instead of that gorgeous perfume you have been hinting about, you will for one day, put aside your focus on what’s not right with the day and really focus on what is RIGHT.

Tell yourself “I give myself permission to laugh more, to get things wrong in the kitchen and the table décor, I will allow my guests to sit where they want to. I will watch that glow in my child’s face when they unwrap that special gift and know that I can still hold my head up high and sing and dance around the mucky kitchen late into the night because I am loving having what I have in my life.” And then stand back and wait for the LOA to do it’s magic.

Remember the LOA does not just work on one day. Christmas day is not it’s only special day it works EVERY SINGLE MOMENT of EVERY SINGLE DAY. So start celebrating every day.

These are old laws that we are all having to re-learn in modern times. Let’s not wait to pass this knowledge onto our children, let’s empower them now with this knowledge so that the next generation will have a deeper understanding of the LOA and bringing more joy and celebration into their lives. Start finding ways to have celebrations with your family every chance you get.

One the simplest celebration “games” I know is what I call the Happy-Meter. At the end of the day on a family chart, placed in full view for all family members to see, a board on a wall, with each day of the week on and the names of each family member to record each day one thing each person was really happy and thankful about on that day. To show how happy this made them, they can add gold stars or similar next to the item. The number of gold stars represents how thankful they were for that item.

Another one of my favourite games to play with the little ones, and you’ll be amazed by how they take to it, is to play a verbal game of “what I love and am thankful for”. It makes meal times go quicker and with so much laughter and sparkles you will be pleasantly surprised at the happy cloud that seems to surround the dinner table.

The idea is to go around the table and each person in turn shares what they really love and are thankful for and keep going round as many times as you can. It can be sharing something as simple as “I love and am thankful that I can sit and have a meal with my family” to “I love and am really, really, hundred times really thankful for my Mater truck” (my nephew’s favourite). You can make it more challenging by adding a bit where each time it comes back to the same person they have to list all the things they mentioned the last time plus one more, it reduces my clan to fits of giggles as everyone tries so hard to outmatch the other and forgets what they said the first time round.

Looking forward to the New Year, nothing focuses the mind on what we want in our lives more then setting goals.

Many personal development teachers and successful people believe that by writing down what you want to bring about in your life and focusing on believing that you have it in your life already as many times in a day as possible, helps bring it about. So getting young ones to sit for 5 minutes and pretend to play with the toy they desire, describing their feelings and what they love about their new toy and so on really focused the energy and desire on that item sending those precious radio waves out to the LOA, here’s another order for you!

One of the many, fun ways of teaching young ones about setting goals that I know of is the Get Buzzy Magical Achievement tree. It helps children learn to determine what they love and would love to have in their lives and also how they want to celebrate their achievements. Check out http://www.getbuzzyeducation.com/Products.html for the get Buzzy Education books and kits created by Joe Estrada.

Wishing you all a fun filled joyful and abundant Christmas.

Be Blessed.
